The 100 Best Places to Drink Beer in America

100 Best Beer Spots

We suggest that you hop a flight to Portugal and work your way East hitting every brewery and bar on the map…but until you do that  you can simply quit your job and hit up all of Imbibe’s 100 Best Places to Drink Beer in America.   Start at Irish Haven in Brooklyn…work your way from there…once your vision returns.

Smokin’ Bowls Chili

SMOKIN' BOWLS

If you ski Vermont at all you have to hit up Smokin’ Bowls Chili…just off Route 91, near Okemo and Stratton, this little roadside stand makes some of the best chili and soups we have ever had…go for the Cheech & Chong Chili then burn one down before jumping on the highway and heading home…L-I-V-I-N.

Internationally Known…St. Regis Bora Bora

No need for words on this one…but you should know that there is a Jean Georges restaurant…not like it matters.

Oakland for Spring Break!

health insurance

I know that college kids generally prefer the sun of Cabo or the booze of Nawlins for Spring Break, but something leads me to believe that lots of stoner kids will have a different destination this year! (THEY HAVE A DOCTOR ON SITE TO GET YOU A CANNABIS CARD…I’M WRITING THIS POST FROM KENNEDY!)

A Day at El Bulli

Over the holidays, I received the amazing coffee table book A Day at El Bulli.  El Bulli is superstar chef Ferran Adria’s impossible to get into restaurant located in Catalonia, Spain.  ( I was in Spain in September and called the March prior to my trip and was told that the entire restaurant was booked for ALL OF 2009 and had been since DECEMBER OF 2008!.  El Bulli makes Momofuku Ko’s reservation system look like McDonald’s)  El Bulli is almost universally considered the greatest restaurant in the world and the book is an amazing visual and literary portrait of …you guessed it…a Day at El Bulli.   Funny (or sad) enough, as I was doing research for this post today, I learned that El Bulli will be closed for the next two years!  Just imagine how hard it is going to be to get into this joint in 2014.

Internationally Known…Il San Pietro Di Positano

I plan on spending a very large part of my life in Italy.  I have loved almost every city, village, vineyard, restaurant, alleyway,  bar, brothel, coffee shop, plaza, museum, restroom (enough already?) that I have visited in this fantastic country.  However, if I had to pick one spot to kick it there is no doubt it would be at the Il San Pietro in Positano.  I will let a man much more eloquent than myself describe Positano,  but if you’ve been you know, and if you haven’t you need to get there.  However, you have to stay at the Il San Pietro.  The hotel was conceived by Carlino Cinque (have you ever heard a cooler name?) who was passionately in love with this place and commissioned a villa on a bay side mountain with breathtaking views. In the course of time, this dream grew as did the hotel. Today, it has 61 rooms, each with a private terrace and a wonderful sea view. The terracotta floors with ceramic decoration and the doors, adorned with frescoes and other wonders, enhance the interior. From the terrace, the view of Praiano, Positano, the coast and the rock formations of Capri are spectacular. The hotel is literally built into the mountain.  A unique hotel of great charm.  Some people will tell you that Le Sirenuse, located in town, is the place to stay.  They are simply wrong.  It is a nice hotel, don’t get me wrong, and if you’re all about hanging out with the girls from The Hills then it might be the place for you.  If you would have preferred to smoke a cigarette with the Rat Pack while dressed in a white linen suit and drinking a Macallan 18, then find your way to the San Pietro.

A few more pics because its my column…
